We are pleased to offer for sale this Elgin Illinois Centennial Silver Commemorative Half Dollar (1928) in XF-40 or Better Condition.  This Elgin Illinois Centennial Half Dollar was designed by Trygve Rovelstad and was struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Elgin in 1836.  The proceeds went to the financing of a Pioneer Memorial Statute (also designed by Rovestad).  The obverse of the Elgin Centennial Half Dollar features depiction of a pioneer with "PIONEER" struck above and dates 1673-1936 struck below.  1673 refers to the the year Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette entered Illinois Territory.   The reverse of the Elgin Illinois Centennial Silver Commemorative Half Dollar features the Pioneer Memorial Statute.   There were only 20,015 of this Elgin Centennial Half Dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint in 1936, making it of great worth and value to the commemorative coin collector!  The Elgin Illinois Centennial Coin is comprised of .900 silver and .100 copper (90% Silver), has a diameter of 30.6mm, and weighs 12.5 grams.
