  • History: Silent screen stars of the 1920's created screen entertainment and popularized screen actors with talents and abilities to share with audiences an art that ended in the 1930's. Prominent names like Rudolph Valentino (May 6, 1895 – August 23, 1926) and Clara Bow (July 29, 1905 – September 27, 1965) became pop icons and sex symbols. Otherwise and yet unique, Charlie Chaplin ( April 16, 1889 – December 25, 1977) rose as comic, actor, filmmaker and composer who rose to fame, influencing future figures in the industry. Lon Chaney (April 1, 1883 – August 26, 1930) could be best known for his characterizations of tortured, sometimes grotesque persons and evenly-well known for his groundbreaking artistry with makeup. John Gilbert (July 10, 1897 - January 9, 1936), “The Great Lover”, rose to fame while Rudolph Valentino shared similar box-office draws.
