The Jedi characters represent good and the light side of the force, while the Sith characters represent evil and dark side. The lightsaber is the weapon of choice for the Jedi and the Sith and is commonly recognized today in popular culture. The first film in the series, Star Wars, was originally released on May 25, 1977 and has since become a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.
