  • History: Gerald R. Ford (July 14, 1913 - December 26, 2006) was the 38th President of the United States who served from1974 to 1977. When Spiro Agnew resigned he became the first person appointed to the Vice Presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment. He rose to presidency after Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974. Ford is the only President ever to have served both as Vice President and as President without being elected by the Electoral College. President Ford was in office for 895 days, among the shortest without dying in office. Remembered by most for pardoning Richard Nixon for his role in the Watergate scandal.
