History: Since the beginning of mankind, dance has been a part of ceremonies, rituals, celebrations, and entertainment. Every culture has their own style. Merengue is the official dance of the Dominican Republic. Slaves who were working in the sugar beet fields created the dance. Originating in New York with Cuban and Puerto Rican influence, Salsa is taken from a few different dances such as Swing dancing and the hustle. Salsa gets its name because of its spicy and hot nuance, although some believe the name came from its many different styles, as "salsa" is a concoction of many different ingredients. The cha-cha is a form of ballroom dancing originating in Cuba in 1953 by composer and violinist Enrique Jorrin. The name came from the sound the feet make as they shuffle across the floor. Developed in Havana, Cuba in the 1930's, the Mambo is one of the most sensual of all ballroom dances. It involves a lot of swaying hips, moving of the arms, and facial expressions.
