Information on the X-Men Comic Book Series: X-men was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. The X-Men series first appeared in September of 1963. The X-Men are a team of mutant superheroes in the Marvel Universe. These mutants are said to have occurred as a result of radiation exposure that caused them to acquire the X-gene. This X-gene gives them their powers. The basic premise of the X-Men is that Professor Xavier created a safe haven for young mutants at his Westchester mansion. Here he trained them to use their powers to benefit humanity and prove that mutants could be heroes.
