Earning awards as an actress in musical and dramatic roles, as well as a recording artist, she also battled with addictions to drugs and alcohol that eventually led to her untimely death in 1967 at the young age of 47. In 1997, Garland was awarded a Grammy Lifetime achievement award, and in 1999, the American Film institute placed her among the ten greatest female stars in the history of American Cinema.
